Focus on Physical Wellness
Horse racing has a long and distinguished history and has been practiced in global civilizations since ancient times. The fitness of racehorses is unequivocally impressive. So much effort goes into these athletes and the hope of what they may achieve on the track. What should be equally significant is the focus on their physical wellness. As Pulse Certified Professionals, we promote cellular exercise as a complement to traditional veterinary care and the potential incorporation of other innovative modalities.[1],[11] Our goal is to support the overall wellbeing of racehorses.
Lumbar and Glutes
Two common areas of concern for racehorses are the lumbar and glutes. We know that the horse’s “engine” is in their hindquarters and most muscle strains can be attributed to “fast work,” their breezes, or racing. To be able to properly push off and propel themselves, the lumbar and hindquarters need to be as pain-free as possible.
Preventative maintenance is definitely key. Increasing blood flow to these areas may be beneficial to any equine athlete. Soreness in this area is often caused by the footing the horses train on. A racehorse on a deeper surface will tend to get sore in their glutes because they aren’t getting a hold of the surface well.
Featured below is a creative way to isolate the lumbar and glutes with PEMF technology. We recommend 10 minutes of pulsing at a light to moderate intensity. As always, consult your veterinarian to clear your horse of any contraindications before using PEMF, consider the general wellness and age of the horse, and pay careful attention to cues for gauging the horse’s comfort level. Good indicators are posture, eyes, ears, and movement.
We sincerely hope that this innovative strategy for working the lumbar and glutes helps you in your bodywork and is a meaningful addition to the horse’s general wellness regimen. After all, PEMF is a practical way to support the body’s natural self-healing abilities.[1],[2] Visit Pulse PEMF to see how PEMF Cellular Exercise can support the wellbeing of your horses.
